A report is recommending Australian universities lose government funding unless they address attacks on Jewish students and for potential immigrants to be screened for political affiliations. The report released Thursday was aimed at curbing antisemitism. Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism Jillian Segal said antisemitic incidents including assaults, vandalism, threats and intimidation had surged more than threefold in Australia in the year after Hamas attacked Israel in 2023. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his government would “carefully consider” her report.
