Top church leaders in the Holy Land have condemned intensifying Israeli settler violence on the only entirely Christian Palestinian village remaining in the occupied West Bank. Monday's rare solidarity visit by the heads of the Greek Orthodox and Catholic churches follows incidents in the village of Taybeh. They asserted that Israeli authorities “facilitate and enable” the presence of the settlers and called for Israel to protect residents and punish the attackers. Israel’s military did not immediately respond to the allegations. The war in Gaza has sparked a surge of violence in the West Bank.
