An Egyptian immigrant and chaplain in Cincinnati has been released after weeks in detention. Ayman Soliman was detained in July during an immigration check-in. He served as an imam in Egypt before fleeing to the U.S. in 2014. On Friday, Soliman thanked supporters and celebrated his release with fellow detainees. His attorney, Nazly Mamedova, said the Department of Homeland Security terminated his removal proceedings and reinstated his asylum. Soliman was granted asylum in 2018 due to past persecution as a journalist during the Arab Spring. He lost a job in Oregon after the FBI flagged his background.
