Authorities in Hong Kong have evacuated thousands after discovering a large undetonated World War II-era bomb. The U.S.-made bomb was found at a construction site in Quarry Bay, a busy area on Hong Kong island. Police say the bomb is nearly five feet long and weighs about 1,000 pounds. The city ordered the evacuation of 6,000 residents from nearby buildings as a precaution. The operation to deactivate the bomb began late Friday and ended around 11:30 a.m. Saturday. No injuries were reported. Bombs from World War II are occasionally found in Hong Kong, which was occupied by Japanese forces during the war.
