Britain is discussing with NATO allies how to enhance Arctic security against Russia and China. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said Sunday that these talks are routine and not a response to U.S. President Donald Trump's recent interest in acquiring Greenland. Trump expressed his desire to make a deal for Greenland to prevent Russian or Chinese influence. Alexander emphasized the importance of a strong deterrent in the Arctic. Britain's former ambassador to the U.S., Peter Mandelson, believes the U.S. will lead Arctic security efforts. Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey suggested Britain offer to deploy troops to Greenland in collaboration with Denmark.
