World shares are mixed after Wall Street retreated on Big Tech losses. Oil prices sank about $3 after President Donald Trump claimed that Iran had said it would stop killing protesters. However, Iran signaled it was stepping up executions. U.S. futures gained. France's CAC 40 dropped 0.4% in early trading, and Britain's FTSE 100 rose 0.4%. Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 dropped 0.4% as SoftBank Group and other tech-related stocks fell. On Wednesday, the S&P 500 dipped 0.5% and the Dow industrials edged 0.1% lower. The Nasdaq composite fell 1%. Big Tech stocks weighed on benchmarks even though the majority of stocks rose, on renewed worries over whether their stocks have become overvalued due to the frenzy over artificial intelligence.
