Guatemala President Bernardo Arévalo says his administration has maintained a good relationship with the United States built on shared interests. He is also working to support multilateral organizations as they push for respect of international law in the wake of the United States' intervention to capture Venezuela's president. Guatemala has its own painful history of U.S. intervention. Arévalo said Thursday in an interview with The Associated Press that “The world in general is experiencing a phase of disorder, disorder in the sense that the norms of the old order are breaking.” Arévalo sees strengthening respect of international law as critical.
