A Texas man is facing execution for fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend nearly 27 years ago in suburban Houston. Charles Victor Thompson is set to receive a lethal injection Wednesday evening at the state penitentiary in Huntsville. Thompson was condemned for the April 1998 shooting deaths of his ex-girlfriend, Glenda Dennise Hayslip, and her new boyfriend, Darren Cain, at her apartment in the Houston suburb of Tomball. Thompson is set to be the first person executed in the U.S. this year. His attorneys have asked for a stay. In 2005, Thompson escaped from custody and was on the run for three days before being recaptured.
