Sudan's military says troops have advanced in the central region of Kordofan, breaking a siege imposed by a paramilitary group on a famine-stricken town. The military said Tuesday it has broken the Rapid Support Forces’ siege of Kadugli, the largest town in South Kordofan province, during a "heroic battle" that opened a crucial road between Kadugli and Dilling. There was no immediate comment from the RSF. Sudan was plunged into chaos in April 2023 when a power struggle between the military and the RSF exploded into open fighting. The war has killed more than 40,000 people.
