Iran’s military capabilities were badly degraded by 12 days of Israeli and U.S. strikes last year. But analysts say it could still inflict pain on American forces and allies in response to another U.S. attack. Iran has a large supply of missiles capable of hitting American bases in the Middle East or Israel, both which Iranian officials have named as targets if attacked. Iran may opt for greater retaliation than it did last year, especially if its leaders feel the Islamic Republic is at risk of being overthrown. Iran also has the ability to disrupt trade in the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for global oil.
