Laken Riley’s father is suing Georgia’s public university system, saying its failures contributed to her killing on the University of Georgia campus. He filed a wrongful-death case against the Board of Regents and several property management companies. The lawsuit says officials failed to warn people on campus after Jose Ibarra tried to enter a female student's on-campus apartment just over an hour before Riley was killed. Ibarra was convicted of killing Riley during a struggle on Feb. 22, 2024. Jason Riley is seeking a jury trial and damages. The university system declined to comment.
