Israel has ordered residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs to evacuate, and the move sets off panic and gridlock across the Lebanese capital. The Israeli military told the Lebanese on Thursday to leave immediately and listed evacuation routes for different neighborhoods. The order followed days of Israeli strikes in Beirut’s suburbs and a wider warning for parts of southern Lebanon. The renewed fighting started after Hezbollah fires missiles and drones into Israel on Monday. Officials say the conflict has killed 102 people and displaced more than 83,000 in Lebanon. U.N. peacekeepers have also reported fresh ground combat near the border.
