Former Virginia first lady Dorothy McAuliffe is running for Congress in a newly drawn district that favors Democrats. The new district is one of four that the party is favored to flip if its redistricting effort passes a referendum and court challenges. McAuliffe served four years in Virginia’s executive mansion from 2014 to 2018. She also became the U.S. State Department’s special representative for global partnerships during President Joe Biden's administration. She is entering a crowded primary. Democrats J.P. Cooney and Dan Helmer have also launched congressional campaigns in the district.
