Jennifer Lopez Is Choosing Herself After Ben Affleck — Here’s Why She’s 'Happy' Being Single

Jennifer Lopez isn’t looking back after her divorce from Ben Affleck was finalized in early January. She’s ready for whatever 2026 has to offer her, but she’s doing it as a single woman.

The 56-year-old superstar isn’t interested in her love life right now because “it’s all about work and the kids for her,” according to a People source. Lopez is “happy and content” to focus on her 17-year-old twins Max and Emme, the children she shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Since her tumultuous split from Affleck, Lopez has been putting her romantic pursuits in the rearview mirror — for now. Telling Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show in October, “What I learned, it’s not that I’m not lovable. It’s that they’re not capable. They don’t have it in them. They need to appreciate the little person inside of them. They need to love them.”

While she didn’t name names, it’s hard not to reflect on her Bennifer 2.0 relationship. The dynamic duo came in hot after an 17-year absence, and then quickly fizzled out once they walked down the aisle (twice). It seemed that the release of her 2024 This Is Me… Now album, which was inspired by her relationship with Affleck, sped up their breakup at a record pace.

“There is such a thing as true love, and some things do last forever, and maybe it doesn’t have a perfectly straight road, but it’s real,” Lopez gushed to Rolling Stone in February 2024 about love with the Oscar winner. “Don’t give up on that because a life lived is really about love and the people that we share our life with.”

Within a matter of months, Lopez and Affleck’s marriage collapsed in a frenzy of headlines about putting their dream home on the market (it’s still up for sale), and why the relationship just didn’t work.

“They have gone through phases where things haven’t been as great between them due to their different personalities and not getting enough time together,” an insider told Entertainment Tonight in May 2024. “They’re not always on the same page. They both have so much going on between taking care of their families and their work commitments, and it can be a lot for them.”

With J.Lo loving the limelight and Affleck’s notable disdain for the paparazzi, their love bubble might have been destined to fail at some point. Still, Lopez is relishing in her single-gal era.

“Now I’m excited, when you say you’re just going to be on your own,” said Lopez in an October 2024 with Interview magazine. “Yes, I’m not looking for anybody, because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f—ing do when it’s just me flying on my own … what if I’m just free?”

Lopez is living her best life on her own terms.
