Rob Reiner & Michele Singer’s Murder Investigation Is Being Locked Down — Here’s Why

Hollywood is still reeling from the loss of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, and now, the courts have weighed in on the case.

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) was successful in getting a court order to block the release of any medical information, including the autopsies, in the murders of Reiner and Singer. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that they received the court order “to place a security hold” on the records as the LAPD continues its investigation.

“While the cause and manner of death were previously released on these cases, due to the court order, the information is no longer available. No other case information or records, including the Medical Examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice,” the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office said in a statement on its website.

The statement continued, “The Department understands the public’s interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible. Information will be made available once the court order is lifted.”

Prior to the court order, the medical examiner’s office shared that Reiner and Singer’s deaths were a result of “multiple sharp force injuries” — and that information was publicly available.

The LAPD was concerned about any leaked information that could jeopardize the high-profile case, so they turned to the courts “to ensure detectives from Robbery-Homicide Division learned of important information surrounding their deaths before the media and the public,” per the Los Angeles Times. “The order was not sought to undermine transparency,” the LAPD added.

The deceased couple’s son, Nick Reiner, 32, is the sole suspect in the case. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the death of his parents. Nick is represented by attorney Alan Jackson, who is known for defending Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, and Karen Read. Nick’s formal arraignment will take place on January 7, 2026, after the court granted a delay after a request from Jackson.

Reiner and Singer’s surviving children, Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, shared a statement with People just days after the December 14 tragedy.

“We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life,” the brother and sister said in the statement. “We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
