What Ruined Victoria Beckham & Nicola Peltz's Relationship? & The 'Ultimatum' Brooklyn Refuses To 'Cave On'
When Nicola Peltz started dating Brooklyn Beckham in late 2019, it didn’t take long for her to be welcomed into the Beckham fold.
“[Nicola] is just wonderful,” Victoria Beckham said during a 2020 appearance on British talk show Lorraine, after Brooklyn proposed to his now-wife. “She’s sweet, she’s kind, she’s such a lovely, warm, wonderful, wonderful woman. We couldn’t have asked for Brooklyn to meet a more adorable, lovely lady. We are very happy. We love her. He’s so happy.”
However, not long after Nicola and Brooklyn wed in April 2022, reports began to speculate that a rift was growing between them amid reports of disagreements over a wedding dress and a now-infamous mother-son dance on the young couple’s wedding day.
It wasn’t until January 19 that Brooklyn confirmed the rumors, claiming in a bombshell Instagram post that his parents “have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding,” alleging that his mom canceled making Nicola’s wedding dress in the “eleventh hour” and left him “humiliated” after dancing “inappropriately” with him in front of friends and family on his big day.
So what changed between Victoria’s declaration of love for Nicola and the family’s current rift?
“Victoria and Nicola got along in the first few months, but then Victoria started acting like a jealous girlfriend,” a Peltz family source told People in a January 27 report. “She seemed so jealous of Nicola.”

However, a Beckham insider offers a conflicting account. “Nicola is the one who is jealous of Victoria. She wants to be famous,” the source said. This sentiment has been echoed by Alana Hadid, the older sister of Nicola’s ex-boyfriend, Anwar Hadid. “That girl doesn’t want privacy, she’s been trying to be famous for a decade,” Alana, who is also the older sister of models Gigi and Bella Hadid, wrote in the comments section of an Instagram post about the feud on January 22.
Tensions allegedly came to a head when Victoria said she was “too busy” to design Nicola’s wedding dress, despite having previously agreed to do so. However, another source told People that Nicola always planned on wearing more than one dress, including the custom Valentino look that she ended up wearing to her ceremony.
From there, the family’s relationship has slowly devolved over differences in the Peltz’s and Beckham’s viewpoints.
“David and Victoria love Brooklyn and are afraid of losing their son,” another insider claimed. “They would take him back in a minute.”
However, another source claimed reconciling involves a compromise that Brooklyn is not willing to make.
“The Beckhams have no intention of reconciling with their son unless Nicola is out of the picture,” alleged that source. “But that’s not an ultimatum he’s going to cave on. Brooklyn has felt more support from his wife in these past three years than from his parents in his entire life.”
While the sources might conflict, Brooklyn made his feelings clear on his Instagram Story. “I do not want to reconcile with my family,” he wrote. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
