Bindi Irwin Reveals Daughter Grace’s ‘Out of This World’ Reaction to Conservation Work: ‘One of the Best Parts of My Entire Existence'
Learning how to save animals has no age limit, and Bindi Irwin’s daughter, Grace, 4, just proved that. The Australia Zoo CEO revealed that her daughter had an “out of this world” reaction to conservation work, and it gives us hope for the next generation!
Irwin, who shares Grace with husband Chandler Powell, recently rescued and rehabilitated two turtles with the help of her toddler. “One of the best parts of my entire existence is getting to share our conservation work with Grace,” Irwin gushed on Instagram on Feb. 26. “She is such a kind and beautiful soul who feels everything with her whole heart. Especially when it comes to wildlife care.”
The Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital recently provided “life-saving care and treatment” to two turtles brought in: a green sea turtle and a hawksbill turtle. Irwin praised the “remarkable care and dedication” of the Hospital team for helping these turtles reach a full recovery. When it was time to return them to the wild, Irwin immediately asked her daughter if she wanted to be a part of it.
“We asked Grace if she wanted to help us release them back into the ocean and her joy and excitement was out of this world!” Irwin revealed, also praising the “perfect day” that made the photos of the moment look unreal.
“The ocean was calm, the sky was blue and we felt so at peace letting these turtles begin their second chance at life in the wild,” Irwin continued. “It’s moments like these that remind me exactly why we do what we do. We have dedicated our entire lives to the protection of wildlife and wild places. It is the honour of a lifetime to get to be part of something so much bigger than yourself.”
Grace is all smiles in the pictures, laughing as she pets a turtle her mom is holding, while looking adorable in an Ariel (from Disney’s The Little Mermaid) shirt, pink jeans, and a bucket hat. She can’t stop laughing and smiling as she watches her dad walk the turtles into the ocean, while she stands on the shore with her mom. Then, her dad holds her while her mom releases the second turtle into the ocean.
It’s such pure joy, and we love seeing how Grace is following in her family’s conservation footsteps!

Irwin’s mom Terri Irwin commented on the heartfelt post. “This is the best! You are the best parents, this is the best outcome for these sea turtles, and the future of wildlife conservation is in the best hands with Grace,” she wrote. “I am so happy!????”
“AHH I love this so very much! You guys are incredible ????????????❤️❤️” another person wrote. Someone else praised, “I love this, she’s got a beautiful heart because of all the amazing role models she spends time with ❤️”
In a Sept. 2023 interview with SheKnows, Irwin shared about how important it was to grow up surrounded by wildlife with her parents, including her dad, the late Steve Irwin.
“We were kind of this wild family,” Irwin said with a laugh. “I grew up within Australia Zoo, so my home and my backyard is a sanctuary filled with wildlife. Growing up, we traveled a lot for our conservation work as well, and no matter where we were or what we were doing, we would always have playtime together as a family.”
“I was always running around in the creek or running around with animals or climbing a tree,” she added. “Honestly, looking back, I now really revel in the fact that I was so lucky to be able to have that childhood. I feel very, very blessed that I got that time with my family to run around as a wild child.
And now she gets to create some of those same memories with Grace, which is so special to see!
