Sheriff Addresses Body Found In Phoenix Amid Nancy Guthrie Search
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office spoke out about a woman’s body that was found in Phoenix, Arizona, amid the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie.
Days after a woman was found dead near a Phoenix canal, the Pima County Sheriff’s Office shut down any speculation that the two cases are linked, telling TMZ on Sunday, March 8, that they have “not been notified of any connection reference that case to the Nancy Guthrie case.”
Nancy, 84, was reported missing in Tucson, Arizona, which is over 100 miles from Phoenix, on February 1. She was last seen at her home the previous night after she was dropped off at home following a dinner with her daughter, Annie Guthrie. Nancy shared daughters Annie and Today host Savannah Guthrie as well as son Camron with late husband Charles Guthrie, who died in 1988.
A series of ransom notes was shared with local and national media outlets in the weeks following Nancy’s disappearance, requesting bitcoin in exchange for her return. Her children made public appeals, confirming they were “willing to pay.”
On February 10, the FBI shared surveillance images of a person of interest wearing a balaclava outside Nancy’s home the night of her disappearance. However, since then, no major leads have been disclosed.
Since Nancy’s disappearance, Savannah, 54, has not appeared on the Today show and didn’t host Winter Olympics coverage. Savannah’s former Today co-anchor Hoda Kotb has been hosting alongside Craig Melvin. Savannah did return to visit her co-workers earlier in March.
“Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her TODAY colleagues,” a Today spokesperson said in a statement on Thursday, March 5. “While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”
The following day, Savannah appeared on air saying, “I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope, and I’m still me.”
“I don’t know what version of me that will be, but it will be,” she said, adding that she was holding on to her faith. “I still believe, and as my mom would say, ‘Where else would I go?'”
