16/17 and 17/18 seasons (16 replies)

Whilst bored out of my brain I was looking through our result sequences for those 2 seasons. How we stayed up either ( let alone both) times is incredible.
In 16/17 we won a grand total of 4 of the last 25 games, including both of the last 2.
Rowett’s last game was a 1-0 home win v Ipswich, at which point, as is well known/debated on here, we were outside the play offs on GD. What I had forgotten, however, is that we had lost the 2 games immediately prior......by an aggregate of 0-7.....and one was Barnsley at home!
The season after we also had some incredible losing streaks - 3 separate ones throughout the season, including one of 7 games relatively late in the season (games 31-37 inclusive. The first 5 were under Carrot-muncher, and then Monk lost his first 2 also)
The fact that we won 5 of our last 9 games that season is also incredible, given what had gone before, and it still of course needed us to beat one of the best teams in the league to stay up on the last day.
Looking back now at the results in sequence it is truly amazing that we didn’t go down.
