WorcsAzulI thought the 1942 fire story was infamous. Small fire starts and a fireman throws a bucket of petrol on it thinking it was water. Small fire becomes big fire etc!!

I thought it was kerosene, which is a bit thicker than petrol and won't evaporate in quite the same way. Petrol in an open bucket would evaporate fairly quickly and be a high risk of causing a fire or explosion. Especially in an era when everybody smoked.
You still hve to wonder what the hell they were doing with open buckets of petroleum based fuels near a brazier anyway.
