Peterson: Vikings outcoached, outplayed by Seahawks
Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson once again voiced his disappointment in the play-calling after Sunday’s 38-7 blowout loss to Seattle at TCF Bank Stadium.
Peterson had just eight carries for 18 yards with a long run of five yards. The Vikings rushed for a dismal 31 total yards, a season low. Their previous low, 71 yards, came in the Week 1 loss at San Francisco.
“I felt like we were out of sync,” Peterson said. “Give credit to Seattle. They did a good job coming in and forcing us to do things differently and they were just a better team. They were more aggressive, played more physical and they outcoached us as well.”
There were too many areas the Vikings were outcoached for Peterson to point out.
“In so many different ways,” he said. “And [we were] outplayed, too, in so many different areas as far as players.”
Peterson wasn’t happy about the number of carries he had, also a season low. When asked he thought if eight wasn’t enough, he responded “What do you think?”
“I’m not going to dwell on this because we have a long season ahead of us,” he said. “[We have to] come back and get our minds right. Like I said, it’s a short week and we have Arizona to think about. They are as equal of opponent as Seattle.”
The disappointing output comes one week after Peterson’s season-high 158 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in a 20-10 victory at Atlanta. As a team, the Vikings totaled 191 yards on the ground against the Falcons.
In Sunday’s loss to Seattle they only compiled 125 net offensive yards.
“Things weren’t pretty,” Peterson said. “We have to do a better job of protecting [quarterback Teddy Bridgewater].” We don’t want him running around like a chicken with his head cut off. …. We don’t have to look at it [on film]. We know what it was. We just made a mistake. We’ve just got to bounce back, pick it up. I can’t say what came to mind, but we have to bite down and just realize some things and come back ready to play Thursday.”
