Funfetti Is Hopping On the Life of a Showgirl Rollout
Before becoming Travis Kelce’s fiancée, Taylor Swift appeared on his podcast, New Heights, to announce her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, and declare herself back on her “granny shit” post–Eras Tour. She said she’d been leaning into “hobbies you could’ve had in the 1700s,” which apparently include sewing, painting, and baking excessive amounts of sourdough. Swift has been experimenting with a variety of recipes for her starter, such as blueberry lemon, cinnamon swirl, and, for Jason Kelce’s four daughters, a rainbow Funfetti sourdough.
Like the rest of the world, Pillsbury was listening. On Thursday, the brand announced it would be adding a Funfetti Sourdough Bread Mix to its lineup of baking products. We kind of saw this coming — on August 14, one day after the podcast aired, the brand posted a clip of Swift talking about perfecting her rainbow recipe on TikTok. “It’s a loaf story,” Funfetti captioned the post. “Should we make Funfetti Sourdough?” One month later, here we are.
While Funfetti has gone out of its way not to mention Swift directly in the rollout (it would likely have to cut her a hefty check if so), it does allude to its muse in a press release: “With this launch, we’re giving fans a new way to bake joy into life’s moments — whether it’s a weekend bake, an album-listening party, or just an everyday moment made brighter with sprinkles … Now, Funfetti is bringing the easter egg to life with a limited release that’s as sweet and fleeting as a surprise encore.” Albums? Easter eggs? Encore? Subtle!
If you’re wondering how, exactly, you’re supposed to make sourdough from a box, it looks as though hopeful bakers will first need to secure their own starter. The kit includes only “sourdough bread mix, a packet of sprinkles, and yeast,” according to the brand.
Funfetti Sourdough Bread Mix will be available for preorder on September 24, just in time for the release of Swift’s album on October 3. Maybe Pillsbury will release a sparkly mint-green-and-orange version next?
