Yolanda Hadid Says Bella Was Hospitalized With Lyme Disease
On Wednesday, Bella Hadid posted a carousel of images to Instagram suggesting she’d recently been hospitalized. In between several snaps of rainbows and golden skies, she included photos of herself getting blood drawn with tubes attached to her body in what looks like a hospital room. In one photo, she appears to be eating pizza in a treatment bed, and in another, her eyes are red and puffy. “I’m sorry I always go MIA I love you guys,” she captioned the post, seemingly addressing her recent absences from the public eye.
While Bella didn’t explain the reason for her hospitalization, her mother Yolanda Hadid posted her own Instagram dump the next day. According to her, Bella has “fought through another month of treatment” for her chronic disease. “Watching my Bella struggle in silence has cut the deepest core of hopelessness inside me,” she wrote. “The invisible disability of chronic neurological Lyme disease is hard to explain or understand for anyone.” Bella, her mother, and her brother, Anwar, were all diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012. Since then, the model has been open about living with the illness, dealing with flare-ups, extreme fatigue, joint pain, and difficulty walking.
“No child is supposed to suffer in their body with an incurable chronic disease,” Yolanda continued. “I admire your bravery and your willingness to keep fighting for health despite the failing protocols and countless setbacks you have faced.” She added, “You didn’t really live, you learned how to exist inside the jail of your own paralyzed brain.”
In 2023, Bella shared a similar series of images, revealing she’d undergone “100+ days of Lyme, chronic disease and co-infection treatment,” and adding that she was “finally healthy” and could “truly” be herself “for the first time ever.” (It’s unclear if she’s getting similar treatment now.) “The universe works in the most painful and beautiful ways but I need to say that if you are struggling, it will get better. I promise,” she wrote. “Take a step away, stay strong, have faith in your path, walk in your truth and the clouds will start to clear up.”
