Does This Sweater Look Liberal to You?
There is much in the world to toil and torment over — indiscriminate ICE raids, the Epstein emails, the slashing of SNAP benefits — but a handful of Republicans on X have taken on an issue that really matters: pink sweaters.
In preparation for the holiday season, J.Crew recently released a baby-pink men’s sweater with a Fair Isle trim around the neck (or, in J.Crew’s words, a “vintage inspired yoke”). Sounds cozy, right? Well, not to everyone. Juanita Broaddrick, a former nursing-home administrator who accused former president Bill Clinton of sexual assault in the ’70s and has since become a prominent conservative poster, tweeted a screenshot of the sweater, writing, “Are you kidding me?? Men, would you wear this $168 sweater?” I’ll give it to her, the price point does feel a little steep, but based on the comments section, that’s not what she’s upset about.

Lo and behold, fellow conservatives answered her rallying cry, accusing the sweater of “emasculating men in America” and any prospective wearers of not being “manly men.” It appears that the bubblegum shade — and even the presence of Fair Isle, which was popularized over a hundred years ago by King Edward VIII — has been deemed wildly, offensively feminine. Tim Burchett, a Tennessee Republican congressman, took a jab on X, where he called the sweater “something a Sorority girl would wear in the 80’s.”

Others used it to dunk on liberal figureheads like Harry Sisson, Eric Swalwell, and Gavin Newsom; one person went so far as to Photoshop Newsom’s head onto the model’s body.

The sweater outrage managed to get the attention of conservative pundit Tomi Lahren, who solicited opinions from her followers. (Most were anti.)

On the bright side, J.Crew is getting great publicity for what would otherwise be a totally unremarkable holiday sweater. Now it can look forward to dressing hundreds of lib boyfriends on Christmas morning.
