Susie Wiles Denies Her Own Comments That Trump White House Is a Mess

White House chief of staff Susie Wiles swears Donald Trump’s second presidency is going really great, regardless of what White House chief of staff Susie Wiles says. According to a new two-part Vanity Fair feature article by author Chris Whipple, the veteran Trump whisperer made some shockingly candid assessments about the chaotic inner workings of the Trump administration. That mayhem has been plainly obvious to any honest outside observer, but it’s never acknowledged by Trump officials on the record, let alone by one of Trumpworld’s smoothest and most successful operators.

Among Wiles’s many surprising admissions to Whipple:

• That Trump and his Justice Department’s critical prosecutions of his political adversaries were disingenuous “score settling” and that she unsuccessfully tried to get him to knock it off after those efforts failed. Also, she said she doesn’t think Trump “wakes up thinking about retribution. But when there’s an opportunity, he will go for it.”

• That Trump has “an alcoholic’s personality” in the sense that he was raised by one, and that “high-functioning alcoholics or alcoholics in general, their personalities are exaggerated when they drink.” Trump thus believes “that there’s nothing he can’t do. Nothing, zero, nothing.”

• That she keeps a monitor in her office that shows a live feed of Trump’s Truth Social posts.

• That Attorney General Pam Bondi “completely whiffed” on her Epstein files rollout.

• That Vice-President J.D. Vance has “been a conspiracy theorist for a decade” whose alliance with Trump was “political.”

• That budget director Russ Vought is “a right-wing absolute zealot.”

• That she was “aghast” over “odd, odd duck” and “avowed ketamine user” Elon Musk’s often irrational antics.

No matter, though, it was all a selectively edited hit job, Wiles insisted in a social-media post on Tuesday morning:

The article published early this morning is a disingenuously framed hit piece on me and the finest President, White House staff, and Cabinet in history. Significant context was disregarded and much of what I, and others, said about the team and the President was left out of the story. I assume, after reading it, that this was done to paint an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative about the President and our team. The truth is the Trump White House has already accomplished more in eleven months than any other President has accomplished in eight years and that is due to the unmatched leadership and vision of President Trump, for whom I have been honored to work for the better part of a decade. None of this will stop our relentless pursuit of Making America Great Again!

Well, that settles that.

And Wiles apparently need not worry about upsetting the boss. Speaking with the New York Post later Tuesday, Trump acknowledged that he didn’t read the article (“I don’t read Vanity Fair”) and suggested Whipple had “deceived” Wiles. But he also said he agreed with what Wiles said about him being like an alcoholic:

No, she meant that I’m — you see, I don’t drink alcohol. So everybody knows that — but I’ve often said that if I did, I’d have a very good chance of being an alcoholic. I have said that many times about myself, I do. It’s a very possessive personality. I’ve said that many times about myself. I’m fortunate I’m not a drinker. If I did, I could very well, because I’ve said that — what’s the word? Not possessive — possessive and addictive type personality. Oh, I’ve said it many times, many times before.

Of Wiles, Trump said “she’s done a fantastic job” and “she’s fantastic.”
