Democrats hit GOP over Speaker chaos in Virginia ahead of Statehouse elections
The Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) announced Monday it was launching a new six-figure ad investment in next month's Virginia state legislature races, keying in on the Republicans' inability to elect a new House Speaker.
“Their refusal to do the basic requirements of government, including choosing a Speaker, shows us that this is all a game to them and they don’t care about the people they were elected to represent," DLCC Communications Director Abhi Rahman said in a statement. “If national Republicans continue to show they won’t govern, why would Virginia Republicans be any different?"
The ad investment is another instance of Democrats using House Republicans' struggles over the Speakership to go after the GOP.
With the government approaching the shutdown deadline, again, on Nov. 17, the DLCC used the looming federal curtailment to highlight that thousands of federal government workers in Virginia would be affected by it.
“It’s time to elect Democrats who will do the job they were elected to do, safeguard our fundamental freedoms like access to an abortion, and put the needs of their constituents over petty, political games,” Rahman said. “It’s time to elect Democrats in Virginia to put a check on MAGA Republican extremism in the commonwealth.”
Politico first reported the investment.
