Letitia James launches portal for New Yorkers to submit photos, videos of ICE
New York Attorney General Letitia James on Wednesday said the state would launch a portal for residents to provide pictures and videos of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents operating in New York City and the rest of the state.
The effort comes after a high-profile ICE raid on Canal Street in New York City.
“We're launching a portal to review federal immigration enforcement in New York after yesterday’s ICE raid on Canal Street,” James wrote in a statement on the social platform X.
“New Yorkers who were present should submit videos or photos, and we will review and investigate any violations of the law,” she added.
In recent months, Democratic-led cities have seen an uptick in federal immigration enforcement.
In New York immigration courts, there have been instances of agents slamming individuals to the ground and pushing those who are appearing for court hearings.
In Illinois, groups of people have been sprayed with tear gas and pepper balls for protesting immigration enforcement. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) has encouraged bystanders to record interactions with federal officials to document them.
Earlier this week, House Democrats on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee said they would launch their own tracker to document incidents involving ICE agents reported by citizens.
Attorney General Pam Bondi decried the effort, citing an increase in violence against law enforcement officers.
