Tottenham Hotspur came up short in their quest to be crowned as champions of Europe for the first time in their history following a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday evening.
After battling back from the jaws of elimination on numerous occasions throughout the various stages of the competition, Tottenham failed to play to their usual high standards and rarely threatened the Liverpool goal.
The Sun football journalist Martin Lipton appeared a guest on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast radio show on talkSPORT this morning and make the claim that half of Mauricio Pochettino’s side who started the Champions League final will never wear a Spurs shirt again in their career.
It is a somewhat wild and bold opinion to think that five or so of the side will not feature for the club again.
Tottenham’s starting eleven vs Liverpool
Hugo Lloris
Kieran Trippier
Jan Vertonghen
Toby Alderweireld
Danny Rose
Harry Winks
Moussa Sissoko
Heung-min Son
Christian Eriksen
Dele Alli
Harry Kane
Lipton named Trippier, Alderweireld, Rose and Christian Eriksen as players who are likely to depart before the start of the next campaign. He also suggested that Mauricio Pochettino is expected to stay at the club and is ready to build his new team for the next phase of his project.
