Some Spurs fans have mercilessly mocked Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy after he revealed his opinion on Parrott’s new contract with Spurs.
Parrott has achieved a couple of important milestones this season including winning his first senior cap for the Republic of Ireland and making his Premier League debut for Tottenham.
The young striker ended up staying at Spurs despite being linked with a loan move away from Spurs last month (Sky Sports). A week ago, he signed a new deal with the club that runs until 2023.
When asked about the Irishman’s new contract, McCarthy insisted that he would have prefered to see him go out on loan rather than sign a new deal with Tottenham (Irish Times).
Some Spurs fans poked fun at the former Wolves and Ipswich Town boss, questioning why Parrott should take his advice over one of the most successful managers in the game in Jose Mourinho.
Here’s how some fans reacted to McCarthy’s comments:
couldnt give a toss what he thinks..Spurs is his bread and butter ..plenty of time to play for his country in years ahead

I would rather trust José than Mick personally.

Mick McCarthy gets spooked by everyone who agrees with his opinion on Troy Parrott’s Spurs deal. https://t.co/uPhBTqBeXO

Mick McCarthy did win the Championship with Sunderland and Wolves tbf, Jose only has 25 major trophies.
Only one man to listen to. https://t.co/OIkpne5U7J

Parrott has a role in the first team squad, even if Mick McCarthy would have preferred to see him at Charlton. https://t.co/IMTdqYriVL

Mick McCarthy commenting on Parrotts development just puts pressure on him when Jose has been trying hard to alleviate it, ridding the suggestion he was fit to fill in for Kane etc he will likely get a loan in summer, commenting before is just counter productive and unnecessary…

Spurs Web Opinion
McCarthy is obviously speaking with Ireland’s best interest at heart as he wants to see Parrott develop as quickly as possible and lead their line. However, Parrott and his advisors obviously wouldn’t have agreed to a new deal if they didn’t see a future at Spurs and a pathway to the first team.
