‘It was disrespectful’ – Jamie O’Hara reacts to comments by Spurs star over his future
Jamie O’Hara has claimed that Gareth Bale has risked tarnishing his legacy at Tottenham Hotspur following his recent comments.
The 31-year-old, who is currently on international duty with Wales revealed that it is his intention to return to Real Madrid in the summer following the conclusion of his season long loan deal with Spurs (Sky Sports).
Bale has scored 10 goals in 25 appearances in all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s side, but has struggled at times with his fitness and the ability to hold down a regular place in the team.
Spanish news outlet Marca have reported that Bale is not in the Spanish giants plans for next season and they will look to sell him in the summer.
The Welshman’s agent Jonathan Barnett claimed that his client’s comments were taken out of context (ESPN), only for O’Hara to question whether that was actually the case.
O’Hara, who played with Bale during his first stint in North London believes that he has disrespected the club where he made his name, even though he may not have meant to.
He told talkSPORT: “As players we’ve all said things in press conferences and thought, ‘I probably shouldn’t have said that…’ I don’t think he’s meaning to be disrespectful for Spurs and Spurs fans, because he’s done so well there over the years… but it was disrespectful.
“As a Spurs fans we all loved him. In terms of what he’s done for Spurs, you can’t take away the fact he was the guy for Spurs for a while, he was amazing.
“But has he tarnished his legacy?
“I’ve played with Gareth and I’ve always said this, he had a quiet arrogance about him. He believed in his own ability, he knew where he wanted to be. He didn’t go out with the lads or really mix with them too much, but he had a quiet arrogance over where he wanted to go as a football player.
“But I feel like when you start to come to the back-end of your career and you start going down, you’ve got to humble yourself a little bit and get in the real world, because you can tarnish a lot of the great things that you’ve done by saying something like he did.”
