Although things have looked bleak at times for Spurs this season, the North London club still have an outside shot at the top four
At this point, Spurs need to win every game they have left if they are to make it to Europe’s elite competition next season. But in order for that to happen, they will need to beat West Ham, Liverpool, and one of Chelsea or Leicester to the holy grail.
Liverpool
Liverpool are currently two points behind Tottenham with a game in hand. Fortunately for Spurs, the reds are in some pretty poor form, winning only one game in their last five.
Liverpool also have Manchester United left to play. As the Merseyside club need to draw only one of their last five games for Spurs to pass them, this is the most likely team that Spurs could beat, but they still need one of Chelsea and Leicester to drop down.
Liverpool also have to play Southampton, West Brom, Burnley, and Crystal Palace.
West Ham
As of now, West Ham sit two points ahead of Spurs. The Hammers have been in shaky form of late. Three wins in their last seven paired with three losses and one draw, they are dropping points left and right.
Even their wins seem narrow, having to make a comeback against Burnley and conceding twice to Wolves and Leicester after taking three-goal leads.
Looking forward, West Ham have a somewhat easy run-in. Their toughest match is Everton who they face Sunday, followed by Brighton, West Brom, and Southampton. For Spurs to pass West Ham the club need to draw at least one of these games.
Chelsea
Chelsea are five points ahead of Tottenham as things stand. Unfortunately for Spurs, the blues have been in fantastic form as of late, winning three of their last four Premier League games.
On the bright side, Chelsea have a much tougher end to the season, with games against Manchester City, Arsenal, Leicester, and Aston Villa.
It is completely possible that the Blues could lose one game and draw one game. If that were to happen, and Spurs won their remaining games, it would come down to goal differential. Currently, Spurs and Chelsea are tied on 22 apiece.
Leicester
Leicester are seven points ahead of Spurs as it stands. With four games to go, closing the gap seems, admittedly, unlikely. Fortunately, Leicester just drew to Southampton, hopefully foreshadowing a downturn in form.
Leicester have the hardest run-in of any of these sides, wrapping up their season with Newcastle, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham on the final day.
For Spurs to jump ahead of The Foxes, Leicester need to drop to within three points of the Lilywhites come the final game of the season.
Conclusion:
Usually, I would say that Spurs have no chance. However, with Leicester having a tough run-in, Chelsea with an eye on the Champions League and FA Cup and Mason seemingly getting Tottenham going, I can’t help but believe!
