Alan Hutton has claimed that Roberto Martinez fits the bill for what Tottenham are looking for in their next manager.
Martinez is one of several managers who has been linked with the vacant Tottenham hot seat over the past few weeks.
Reports have suggested that the former Everton boss has several admirers at Spurs and the ever-reliable Alasdair Gold even named the Spaniard as among the shortlist of candidates the North London club have settled on.
Some sources have claimed the Belgian boss is making a “huge play” for the Tottenham job and that his enthusiasm has stood out to the club’s hierarchy.
Hutton admitted that he is excited by the rumours linking Martinez to Spurs, insisting that the 47-year-old would be able to deliver the style of football that the Tottenham faithful demand.
However, the former Spurs right-back suggested that Martinez not being available until the end of the European Championship might count against him.
When asked about Tottenham’s rumoured approach for Martinez, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think he fits the bill. It’s exciting. It all comes down to the style of football that he plays.
“He wants to play the way Tottenham want to play. They want to play exciting football, attacking football and he fits that bill.
“I think the only problem, and I know these top managers will evaluate the squad and stuff, but he’s going to be with Belgium at the Euros until late on in the competition, probably. I can see Belgium doing well this year.
“For him to go far in that and then obviously come into the job in the summer, it’s very late. It’s a difficult one. I know he will be evaluating the squad and what he wants but there’ll be a quick turnaround.
“He’ll have to put his ideas and implement what he wants to do moving forward very, very quickly. It’s whether they can take on board what he wants really quickly before the season starts.”

While some might be quite bewildered by the fact that Martinez is being touted for the job, on closer examination, it is quite evident why the Spaniard would be an appealing option for the club.
He is arguably one of the most skilled when it comes to handling the media and that might be something that is on the forefront of Levy’s mind on the back of the Mourinho saga.
He likes his sides to play on the front foot and has also shown during his stint as Belgium boss that he can manage big egos. However, there is still a massive question mark over him because of how things unravelled for him during the end of his time at Everton.
