The Evening Standard have revealed that supporters are set to be allowed to stand in selected Premier League and Championship fixtures this season after the UK government approved a trial on safe standing.
The report revealed the government has given the green light to the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) to begin assessing various grounds for safe standing. The trial is expected to begin from the start of the next calendar year.
It is revealed that Spurs and their London rivals, Chelsea, are among the Premier League clubs who would be able to meet the criteria for safe standing in both the home and away sections of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Stamford Bridge respectively.
The criteria thought to be stipulated by SGSA is that fans must be able to sit or stand in the licensed area, there must be only one seat or space per person, and that the view of other fans should not be impacted.
The report explains that the SGSA is set to evaluate applications from various clubs after October 6 before making recommendations to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
The licensed standing areas will reportedly then be independently evaluated in the second half of the season.

This is fantastic news for football fans in the UK as permitting safe standing will have a positive effect on the atmosphere. Tottenham should not really have any issues complying with the stipulation given that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been future-proofed for safe-standing.
