The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) have released a statement in light of Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking at the club, while detailing their expectations of what is to come going forward.
The Portuguese coach’s five-month reign in North London came to end on Monday morning following Spurs’ 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester United on Saturday.
Spurs currently sit in eighth in the Premier League, already 10 points off leaders Chelsea and five points out of a Champions League spot.
Nuno signed a two-year deal with Spurs back in June after a lengthy managerial search following Jose Mourinho’s departure, but he leaves the club after just 17 games in charge.
Backroom staff and coaches Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias also see themselves relieved of their duties.
The THST board issued a lengthy statement in response to Nuno’s sacking, stating the 47-year-old conducted himself with ‘integrity, good grace and civility’, but was ultimately ‘not the right fit’.
A statement read: “We take no pleasure in seeing the fourteenth manager of ENIC’s reign depart the Club today.
“Nuno Espirito Santo conducted himself with integrity, good grace and civility throughout his short time at Spurs and, although clearly not the right fit for Tottenham, we wish him and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias well for the future.”
The THST board also highlighted its concerns going forward ahead of the appointment of Nuno’s replacement and the future of the club’s operations.
“Of immediate concern now is where our Club goes next. We reiterate the questions around strategy and vision first posed to the Club’s Board earlier in October. There is growing concern among fans about the direction of travel at Tottenham Hotspur.
“Fans want and deserve to know what the short and long-term plans are, on and off field, how the Club’s Board is correcting past mistakes to avoid repetition, what key milestones are being set and how they are measuring success.
“Fans want reassurance that the Club’s Board has a clear philosophy and vision, and the ability to implement it. Bland statements about being focused on success on the pitch and football families are not sufficient.
“For two years now, there has been obvious regression. The Club’s Board needs to show unequivocally that they have both listened to the voices of concerned fans and are acting positively on those.
“Now is the time for strong communication and accountability. We call on the Board of Tottenham Hotspur to put Fans and Football First at what is a vital time in the history of our Club.”

Nuno was a goner from the start and was ultimately a square peg in a round hole. He wasn’t helped with the squad issues, but the style of football was tough to watch. The cub must now act quickly to find a suitable replacement to steady the ship.
