Charlie Sayers has said he is proud to sign for Tottenham with a post on Instagram after joining the club earlier this week.
The 17-year-old defender joined Spurs for an undisclosed fee from National League club Southend United. He made a breakthrough to the Shrimpers’ first-team earlier this season, and departs the Essex side having made six appearances.
During an initial trial period, Sayers featured for the club’s Under-18 outfit at centre-back and captained the side during the 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace last week.
However, Spurs elected to complete the permanent signing of Sayers, with the club confirming he will move directly into the youth set-up as a second-year Under-18 player.
Reacting to his move to N17, Sayers posted an image of himself signing the contract while adding he is proud to sign for a club of Spurs’ magnitude.
He said: ‘Proud moment for me to sign for such a great club @spursofficial hard work continues! Big thank you to the players, staff and fans @sufcrootshall for the time I was there.’
Spurs Web Opinion
Spurs were obviously impressed with Sayers during his short trial period at the club and have elected to keep him on permanently. While he enters the youth set-up, hopefully, he can continue to develop and blossom into a solid option in defence.
