Antonio Conte has revealed that he is confident Son Heung-min will be fit to play a part in South Korea’s World Cup campaign.
Son collided with the shoulder of Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba in the first half of Tottenham’s 2-1 win over the Ligue 1 club last week. The forward reportedly sustained four separate eye socket fractures as a result of the collision.
The Telegraph revealed a couple of days ago that the 30-year-old’s surgery had gone as well as it could have. The report added that Son’s camp are positive regarding his chances of featuring in Qatar.
South Korea get their World Cup campaign underway with a clash against Rodrigo Bentancur’s Uruguay on 24 November, and the forward is thus in a race against time to be involved.
Conte admitted that Son was disappointed at the timing of his injury but he remains hopeful that the former Bayer Leverkusen man can make a quick recovery after going under the knife.
When asked if has been in touch with South Korea manager Paulo Bento about Son’s situation, the Tottenham head coach told Football.London: “No with Sonny, I sent him a message yesterday after the surgery and Sonny was really, really disappointed for this situation but I hope for him he will recover very well and play in the World Cup.
“I was a player and I know the importance of playing in the World Cup. Tonight he was the first person to play this game, for sure he missed us. I am confident, confident that he can come back quickly and play the World Cup for South Korea.”

Given how much it means to Son to play for his country, I fully expect him to feature in the World Cup with a protective mask if he feels he can do so. Perhaps, the game against Uruguay might come too soon for him but I believe that he will play a part in Qatar.
