When asked about calling off talks with Chelsea, Julian Nagelsmann has suggested that he never committed to anything in the first place with the West London club.
It emerged on Friday that Nagelsmann had withdrawn himself from contention for the Chelsea job, with Mauricio Pochettino emerging as the new front-runner for the Stamford Bridge hot seat (Telegraph).
The Independent claim the German did not see the current Blues set-up as the right fit for how he wants to work as a coach because the role involved ‘too much off the training ground’.
Matt Law initially suggested that the development would have no impact on Tottenham’s pursuit of Nagelsmann but that claim has subsequently been contradicted by Christian Falk, who stated that the 35-year-old specifically ended talks with the Blues to begin conversations with Spurs.
The recently departed Bayern Munich boss has now broken his silence regarding the breakdown of talks with Chelsea.
When asked about the talks with the Premier League club collapsing, he told Sky Sport Germany (via Fabrizio Romano): “To cancel something, you have to commit to something.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I always felt that there was no reason why Nagelsmann would not consider the Spurs job if he is open to the Chelsea one.
Any manager who goes into Stamford Bridge is unlikely to be given much money to spend over the next few transfer windows, given their current FFP situation.
However, I am not quite getting my hopes up regarding Nagelsmann coming to Spurs as it is quite possible that the German is simply waiting for Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain to come calling.
