Tottenham Hotspur have issued a statement on the increased ticket prices for the 2023/24 season after receiving backlash from fans and the club’s Supporters’ Trust.
Last season, Newcastle United were listed as a Category B team and Nottingham Forest a Category C team when it came to ticket pricing, but both have been bumped up a tier this time around.
That means the pricing split has moved from five Category A games, nine Category B and five Category C to six Category A games, nine Category B games and four Category C.
While Tottenham were one of the few teams to freeze their season ticket prices for next season, they also have some of the most expensive season tickets already, and have now decided to increase the costs of single tickets.
The Telegraph also reported recently (before Spurs announced the season ticket price freeze) that Tottenham were considering a ‘sizeable price increase’ for future season tickets.
Tottenham explain away ticket cost increases
Tottenham have now responded to the backlash from fans with a short statement explaining why prices are set as they are.
A Tottenham spokesperson told Football London: “We are fully aware of the current rising cost of living – and as such are one of only three Premier League clubs to freeze season ticket prices for the coming season.
“Our match ticket prices are comparable to other London clubs, with a wide range of price points available for fans to choose from.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
When you have some of the most expensive tickets in the league and are coming off the back of your worst and least entertaining season in a decade, increasing prices is never going to go down well.
The amount of extra income Spurs will get from this is not worth the loss of fan trust and loyalty.
