The Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has suggested that Douglas Luiz might not be tempted to join Tottenham Hotspur as a move from Villa to the North London club would not represent a clear step up.
It was The Daily Mail who first ran the story last week about Spurs eyeing Luiz as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is expected to complete a move to Atletico Madrid over the coming weeks.

The Sun subsequently claimed Tottenham could have a competition to contend with from their North London rivals, Arsenal, for the Villa star’s signature.
It was revealed that Mikel Arteta’s men tried in vain to lure Luiz away from Villa Park last summer and could be about to try again this window.
Speaking on his YouTube channel a couple of days ago, Alasdair Gold expressed doubt over whether the Brazilian is a realistic target for Spurs, suggesting that Villa might demand an astronomical fee for the player.
Douglas Luiz may not even want a Spurs transfer
Taylor has now added that Luiz might not even view a move to the Lilywhites as a step up.
When asked about the speculation linking the Villa star with Tottenham and Arsenal, the journalist told GiveMeSport: “I think Tottenham will probably be the more likely suitors for him.
“Because at the moment, I don’t really envisage Arsenal having the kind of money to hand that Villa would require and obviously Hojbjerg is probably going to head to Atlético Madrid as well.
“But again, if you’re Douglas Luiz, do you trade Villa for Tottenham now, I don’t think that’s a clear upgrade if that’s the right word.
“I think Villa are certainly going to be better, if not competing with Spurs next season. So again, I’m not sure whether that’s a move that will happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.”

There is no doubt that Villa would demand a very high fee for Luiz, given that he has three years left on his contract.
So, unless Spurs have an interesting idea up their sleeve, such as potentially offering Lo Celso as part of the deal, I do not think the 25-year-old is a realistic target this summer.
