Journalist Miguel Delaney has written about the impact that Ange Postecoglou has had at Tottenham, remarking that the Australian is already being talked about as a potential future Man United manager.
The Tottenham hierarchy have made some poor managerial appointments over the last four years since Mauricio Pocehttino’s sacking.
In fact, Daniel Levy himself admitted two months ago that while Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte are great managers, they were not good fits for Spurs (ESPN).
The North London club now seem to have stumbled on to the perfect man for the job, with Postecoglou completely transforming the atmosphere around the club and delivering the style of football that the Tottenham faithful love to watch.
The fact that Spurs fans, who can be quite impatient and demanding, applauded the team off the pitch for their effort after their 4-1 loss to Chelsea on Monday, shows the kind of feelgood factor that the Australian has brought to N17.
Could Postecoglou manage Man United one day?
Delaney has opined that Postecouglou’s early success at Tottenham is perhaps a demonstration that experience at the highest level should not be a pre-requisite for managers.
He wrote in his column for The Independent: “A highly stratified game, especially at the top level, has become far too sniffy about big clubs and managerial CVs. Thinking outside the usual parameters can bring managers who do much more than think outside the box. Roberto De Zerbi is another example.
“Big-club experience is of course important at that level but it says much that Postecoglou is already being talked about in the game as someone Manchester United should think about in the future.
“He shows why personality can be as important as experience. Some coaches just have that instinct and ability for managing dressing rooms, no matter where they are. Postecoglou evidently has, to go with a supremely keen tactical mind that is always about adventure.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The days of Man Utd being in a position to poach managers and players from Spurs are long gone. There is no doubt that Ange’s success will convince some clubs to look beyond just the highest level of the game for coaching talent, just as most clubs do for players.
