Ange Postecoglou has refused to get into any details about Tottenham’s alleged breach of the FA rules by using an unlicensed agent in 2008, with the Spurs head coach pleading ignorance about the matter.
It was reported by The Times on Tuesday that they uncovered from their investigation that an unlicensed agent was used by Spurs for Jermain Defoe‘s transfer from White Hart Lane to Portsmouth in 2008.
The report stated that the FA took no action against Tottenham at the time even though they had handed out points deductions and director bans for similar offences committed by other clubs.
English football’s governing body have since confirmed that they are reviewing evidence from the transfer and will be investigating why no action was taken at the time (Sky Sports).
Football Insider asserted on Thursday that Spurs could face some serious punishment if they are found to have broken the rules.

Postecoglou avoids question about potential points deduction
This is because there is a growing appetite in the FA to hit clubs hard, given that the introduction of an independent regulator for English football is expected to be discussed in the British parliament soon.
When Postecoglou was asked about Tottenham’s alleged incident 15 years ago, he told Football.London: “And? In 2008? I think I was maybe coaching Brisbane Roar mate, so fair to say I wasn’t around then.
“And really, if you think that’s coming across my desk… people are keeping a fair bit away from me at the moment because of what’s really important and that is we’ve got a big game on Sunday, with the issues we’ve got around the team tomorrow, that’s where my focus is.”
When the Australian was told that the question was put to him since he is the public face of the club at pre-match press conferences, he responded: “And I think I’ve answered it. It’s not across my desk mate. For me to give you an answer would mean me sitting down with whoever is doing the investigation, whoever has all the information here, you know how many hours?
“I don’t know if you’ve spent any hours doing that but I don’t have that time in my day to be assessing those kinds of issues. With those kinds of things, any of those issues, there are those responsible, maybe I’m the spokesman, but I’m the spokesman for the football club in terms of football. I would hate it absolutely if you got a lawyer out here and he started talking about what sort of formation we should play at the weekend.
“I’ll keep my mouth shut with those things, not for any other reason, but I respect the space that other people are in and that I’m in. If you’ve got real questions about that, there are probably better people to ask than me.”

Not only is this beyond Ange Postecoglou‘s expertise by providing any information on this matter could jeopardise the FA investigation that is reportedly ongoing. So, the 58-year-old has no choice but to keep his lips sealed on this matter.
