Tottenham Hotspur’s latest target in the Italian leagues is Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, but they may have to wait until the summer to land their man, as his current club are adamant they don’t want to sell.
Over the last couple of years, with Fabio Paratici‘s influence at Spurs taking hold, the North London club has been fishing in the Italian market with great success.
The likes of Guglielmo Vicario and Radu Dragusin have arrived from Serie A this season, while Dejan Kulusevski, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Rodrigo Bentancur all made the move from Italy previously.
It may seem like Spurs have got their defensive roster in order now, with the signing of Dragusin this month. But, the Lilywhites are not finished there.
It was recently reported that Spurs were also keeping an eye on Bologna centre-back, Ricardo Calafiori (Il Resto Del Carlino, as relayed by Tutto Bologna Web).
Ricardo Calafiori is not moving yet despite Spurs links
The 21-year-old only joined his current club in the summer from FC Basel, having previously left his boyhood club, Roma, the summer prior. But, he could well be on the move again in the near future, if Spurs get their way.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Tottenham will have to be patient in their pursuit of the young defender, as Bologna have “no intention” of selling Calafiori during the winter window. The Serie A outfit are determined to hold onto their key assets right now, but are aware this will be harder in the summer.
The report describes the market as an “ugly beast,” and suggests it will be “hard to resist” for Bologna at the end of the season if big Premier League sides are still sniffing around their players. But, for now, the club and Calafiori are thought to have no plans for “splitting up just yet.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I love the profile of player we seem to be going for right now, with young, up-and-coming talent being poached to build a strong future for our squad. If Calafiori is not available right now, that’s fine, we can wait until the summer.
