Sport Bild have claimed that Timo Werner does not have a future at RB Leipzig and is quite keen to make a permanent switch to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer
Not everyone was sold on the transfer when Spurs signed Werner on loan in January, given the forward’s struggles in the Premier League with Chelsea.
However, the move has undoubtedly been a masterstroke for the Lilywhites as they have added another solid attacking option to their squad for no cost.
The German international has made 10 league appearances since his switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has five goal contributions to his name (Transfermarkt).
Timo Werner is keen to remain at Tottenham
Bild back up what has already been reported by other outlets by claiming that Spurs would have to activate the €17m (£14.5m) option to buy Werner by June 14.
It is explained that such an early date has been set by the Bundesliga time so that they have clarity over the forward’s future and can plan their summer business accordingly.
The report states that Werner’s ‘body language has improved significantly’ since he has been at Spurs and it is suggested that being away from the scrutiny of the German press has benefited the player.
The publication adds that the 28-year-old ‘definitely wants to stay’ at Tottenham beyond this season but there has been ‘no contact’ between the Lilywhites and Leipzig recently.
Spurs Web Opinion
Given that Tottenham have an option to buy Werner, there is no need for them to make any contact with Leipzig over the deal or enter into any sort of talks. I am convinced that Spurs will activate the permanent option.
