Chelsea just handed Tottenham hope of lifting their next major silverware
While it is never pleasing for Tottenham fans to see Chelsea lift a trophy, the Blues’ thrashing of Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final would have given them the belief that an upset is very much on the cards in the UEFA Super Cup.
PSG were overwhelming favourites to be crowned the first champions of this new-look Club World Cup, having dispatched almost every team they have faced over the last six months.
However, the European champions were humbled 3-0 by Chelsea in the final at the MetLife Stadium on Saturday, with a first-half brace from Cole Palmer and a goal from new boy Joao Pedro seeing the West London side canter to a win.
This defeat for the Parisians comes almost exactly a month before they take on another London side, Tottenham Hotspur, in the final of the UEFA Super Cup in Udine.

Tottenham will be more optimistic ahead of Super Cup clash vs PSG
Understandably, not many Tottenham fans have given their side a chance against PSG, who undoubtedly looked head and shoulders above any side in the Champions League last season.
However, this loss against a counter-attacking Chelsea side and their group stage loss against Brazilian side Botafogo show that Luis Enrique’s men are vulnerable on the break.
Thomas Frank would have watched these games, and with the firepower Spurs now have on the counter-attack, especially following the arrival of Mohammed Kudus, the Dane will believe he can lift a trophy in his first competitive game as Tottenham head coach.
Why PSG will be undercooked for UEFA Super Cup clash
We have pointed out previously on Spurs Web that PSG could end up being undercooked against Tottenham in the Super Cup clash due to a FIFA rule.
All players are required to be given three weeks off after their involvement in any major tournament. That means with a month to go for the Super Cup clash, some PSG players might not return to pre-season training until a week or two before the final in Udine.
In stark contrast, the first set of Tottenham players started arriving for pre-season over a week ago, and one would expect the squad to be fit and raring to go for the Super Cup clash.
