Tottenham in talks to sign Brazilian forward who scored 14 goals last season
Tottenham Hotspur have now officially begun talks over landing a Brazilian international, while Liverpool are maintaining a watching brief.
Spurs fans are understandably upset at the way the Morgan Gibbs-White saga was handled, and many of them expect the club to make some big moves after wasting two and a half weeks chasing the Nottingham Forest star.
Reports from Spain are now indicating that the Lilywhites may be prepared to do just that by pushing ahead with a move for a Real Madrid star.
On Sunday, it was reported by AS that Tottenham are advancing their interest in Rodrygo after the likes of Arsenal and Bayern Munich cooled their interest in the Brazilian.
Tottenham have held talks over a deal for Rodrygo
According to journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, Spurs have now started talks over a sensational deal for the 24-year-old.
He revealed that all parties are still waiting to see if Liverpool make a move, but the pacy winger has not made a final decision on his future just yet and has not even ruled out staying at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Alvarez de Mon tweeted: ‘Tottenham are in talks for Rodrygo and are waiting to see if Liverpool makes a move. No decision has been made on the player’s part, and he could stay at Real Madrid.’
According to some sources, Tottenham would have to pay €90m (£76m) to land Rodrygo, which would comfortably make him the Premier League’s record signing.
Rodrygo move might be tied to Heung-min Son’s future
It is perhaps no coincidence that the speculation linking the Real Madrid star with a move to Tottenham Hotspur has intensified just as reports indicate that Heung-min Son now looks increasingly likely to depart Spurs.
Reports suggest that Tottenham are ready to accept a cut-price fee for Son if he decides that he wants to join Los Angeles FC this summer.
One would expect Thomas Frank’s men to replace the South Korean if he departs, and landing Rodrygo would certainly be a big statement by the North Londoners.
