Heung-min Son sent strong warning about the risk of staying at Tottenham Hotspur
Gabriel Agbonlahor has shared a strong opinion on Heung-min Son’s situation at Tottenham, raising doubts about his role under Thomas Frank this season.
Heung-min Son’s future remains uncertain this summer window amid interest from LAFC in the MLS, with some reports claiming that the Tottenham captain’s departure is edging closer.
Despite the rumours surrounding Son’s future, the Korean international was among several other players included in Thomas Frank’s Tottenham squad for the tour of Asia.
In fact, it is expected that Son will feature prominently in the two ties against Arsenal and Newcastle United this summer. If not, Spurs could lose a huge amount of money this pre-season due to agreements with shareholders.
Gabriel Agbonlahor questions Heung-min Son’s Tottenham role under Thomas Frank
With speculation around Heung-min Son continuing to increase, speaking on talkSPORT, Andy Goldstein asked Gabriel Agbonlahor if he thinks Son will stay at Tottenham beyond the end of the summer transfer window.
Agbonlahor did not give a definite yes or no, but was quick to point out that if Heung-min Son was to remain at Tottenham, he does not think the Korean would play as much as he did in previous campaigns.
The former Aston Villa man replied: “If he does (stay), I do not think he plays. No, I do not.
“There are other players who can play in that (left-wing) position. Kudus has looked sharp in pre-season. He did nothing for West Ham last season, but he has looked sharp. I think Spurs will do a lot better this season.”
Son will leave a Spurs legend no matter when he goes
Son is now 33 years old and the Tottenham captain is undoubtedly a legend of Spurs following his decade-long service. It would certainly not be easy for him to part with his beloved Lilywhites.
It has been reported that Son is willing to make a compromise, as suggestions state that the club captain is happy to stay in N17 until at least January, potentially leaving with six months left on his contract.
Tottenham might not be able to fetch loads of money from his departure should he remain for that long in north London, which makes this a very interesting transfer saga.
Interestingly, Thomas Frank revealed in a recent press conference that he still has a role for Heung-min Son in the upcoming season, adding yet another twist to the Tottenham saga.
