Where Joao Palhinha will rank among Tottenham’s highest earners this season
Joao Palhinha will become one of the highest-paid players in the Tottenham Hotspur squad if he completes a move to N17, as details about the loan deal have now come to light.
Tottenham Hotspur fans were getting restless and impatient after Morgan Gibbs-White’s move to Spurs fell through, but they will soon have another signing to celebrate.
It is now being widely reported that Joao Palhinha is expected to complete a season-long loan move to Tottenham to shore up Thomas Frank’s midfield.
Tottenham will have an option to buy Palhinha for £26m, with this deal being the second of its nature agreed between the Lilywhites and Bayern over the last six months after Mathys Tel signed on loan in January before making a permanent move this summer.

Sky Sports’ Florian Plettnberg has confirmed what we have heard from other sources by stating that Spurs will cover the midfielder’s entire salary during his loan spell.
According to Capology, Palhinha earns a base salary of €192,308 (£166,725) in his current contract at the Allianz Arena.
According to the same website, that would make him the third highest earner at Tottenham behind Heung-min Son (£190,000-a-week) and James Maddison (£170,000-a-week), and just ahead of Cristian Romero, who earns £165,000 per week.
The high salary may be why Spurs preferred a temporary deal
It has been claimed by The Athletic and other sources that Bayern Munich were ready to sell Palhinha permanently to Tottenham, but Spurs preferred a temporary deal.
That might be down to the midfielder’s high salary, as it would have been risky to hand a 30-year-old a big contract.
One would not be surprised if Tottenham ask the former Fulham man to take a pay cut next summer if they decide to activate the option to buy.
