Tim Sherwood sends Tottenham board a strong £100m message about Thomas Frank
Tim Sherwood has weighed in on the future of Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur amidst the heavy criticism directed at the Dane.
Frank was once again booed by the travelling Spurs fans at the Gtech Community Stadium on Thursday, and that is something that he is now getting used to.
The main reason for the supporters’ frustration is not just the results but also the uninspiring style of play, with the team struggling to create chances.
Frank remains confident that Tottenham will click as an attacking force, but it is clear that he is losing more and more supporters with each passing game.
Tim Sherwood tells Tottenham hierarchy to back Thomas Frank in January
Sherwood believes that after deciding to replace Ange Postecoglou with Frank, despite winning a trophy last season, the Tottenham hierarchy have to give the Dane time to show what he is capable of.
The former Spurs midfielder urged the North London club to back the 52-year-old with the kind of signings that are suited to his system.
Sherwood told TEAMtalk: “They need to back Thomas Frank and give him signings that will fit into the system of a Tottenham team he is in charge of.
“They got rid of Postecoglou after what I believe was a successful season. I know they finished 17th, but that is because they focused on the Europa League and that was the right decision because they won it. Ange’s job was to end the long wait for a piece of silverware and he delivered on that, but still got that sack.
“Where did that leave Thomas Frank when we went in? What is success for the next Spurs manager if the previous one got sacked for winning a major European trophy? For me, you have to stick with this manager and back him properly in the transfer market and that has not happened for a long time at Tottenham.”
Sherwood urges Spurs to change transfer market strategy
Some sources have claimed that Frank will be handed a £150m war chest for January as Tottenham eye key additions across the pitch.
Sherwood believes that Spurs need to use those funds on one or two game-changing signings rather than taking a punt on cheaper options.
The former Tottenham interim head coach told the Lilywhites top brass: “Instead of signing players for £20m or £30m, put all the money into signing a £100m player who can make the difference. Tottenham have not done that down the years, and I look at the squad they have now, and a lot of the players who are all at a similar level.”
