Former Tottenham scout doubts Spurs would be able to tempt £59m goalscorer
Former Tottenham senior scout Mick Brown doubts the North London club would be able to convince one of their rumoured targets to join in January.
With Antoine Semenyo heading to Man City, Spurs are thought to be hoping to push through a deal for Marmoush, who is expected to be pushed further down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.
Tottenham are expected to test the waters for Omar Marmoush, who is currently away at the African Cup of Nations.
Some sources have claimed that Man City are likely to sell one of their attackers once they bring Semenyo through the door, but the Lilywhites may face one big hurdle in landing the City forward.
Omar Marmoush is not keen on a move to Tottenham
Former Spurs and Man United scout Mick Brown, who remains well connected with industry sources, has now revealed that a move to N17 does not appeal to the former Eintracht Frankfurt man.
Even though the 26-year-old has made just two Premier League starts this term, he remains keen on fighting for his future at the Etihad Stadium.
Brown told Football Insider: “Tottenham are interested in signing Marmoush. It’s a deal that would suit Tottenham, but I don’t know whether it would suit the player. It would get him more regular game time, which, of course, would be a benefit, but he will feel he still has a part to play at Man City.
“He did really well when he first started there, and yes, Foden has come back into form, and they’ve added Cherki, so the team has gone on again, but he still has a role. Whether he would want to leave City, with the chance of winning silverware and taking part in a title race, to join an inconsistent Tottenham side is doubtful.
“They’re having fingers pointed at them from all directions, the fans aren’t happy, results haven’t been good enough, so would Marmoush swap City for that? I don’t think so. There are definite doubts about the move from his side of things, so they might need to look elsewhere if they want to strengthen.”
Man City do not want to weaken their squad in January
What complicates the deal even more is that Pep Guardiola’s men are thought to be unwilling to weaken their attack this month.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that Man City are not likely to sell Marmoush mid-season even if they sign Semenyo, as they look to chase down Arsenal for the Premier League title.
This has also been backed up by The Daily Briefing, who asserted that City will only listen to offers for the Spurs target in the summer.
