Pedestrian struck by falling bricks in downtown Buffalo, police say
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A male pedestrian was injured on Tuesday after he was struck by bricks that reportedly fell from the Liberty Building downtown, Buffalo police said.
Emergency crews responded to the building around 1:10 p.m. It was reported that the pedestrian was awake and alert at the scene after being hit in the head by the bricks. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Falling debris is believed to be from the 13th floor. An investigation into the cause of the incident and the condition of the building is underway.
“We are very thankful no one was seriously hurt. Safety is one of our top priorities and we consistently take preventive measures to ensure the safety and security of the building both inside and out," a spokesperson for the Liberty Building said in a statement. "Thanks to the Buffalo Police and Buffalo Fire Departments for their efforts this afternoon. We are in the process of securing the area in question and evaluating the building facade with our experts to determine if additional measures are necessary.”
